An 85 yearold janitor who raises 2 little grandchildren to a huge reward
After a chance meeting, an 85-year-old widower from Lexington, Kentucky, who works as a janitor at a local McDonald’s to support his two adopted grandsons, received a life-changing gift.
Wendall and Della Gill had been married for 63 years and had been together since they were teenagers. However, Wendall’s world came crashing down in August 2018 when Della died unexpectedly from an aneurysm while they were having breakfast at the McDonald’s where Wendall worked.
Despite his heartbreaking loss, Wendall returned to work every day, cleaning the facilities where his beloved wife had died. He refused to give up because he needed to provide for his two special needs grandchildren, John and Justin, whom he and Della had adopted.
Todd Oldfield, a former McDonald’s employee and Wendall’s acquaintance, heard about his situation and decided to launch a GoFundMe campaign to assist him.
Todd was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from people all over the world.
They eventually raised more than $75,000, which Todd used to pay off Wendall’s debts, including his home and vehicles, as well as to purchase a gravestone for Della. Wendall was moved by the outpouring of love, and Todd even organized a «Appreciation Party» in his honor at a nearby church.
«It’s just amazing how people can come together and do things for somebody they don’t even know,» Todd said of the experience.
