One father in the Philippines makes it a point to send his son to school every day, even if it means manually rolling his wheelchair all the way there while his son sits on his lap.

Tatay Alejandro was recently named «Father of the Year» after his story about wheeling his son to school went viral on the Internet.

Alejandro, who is disabled, does so for two reasons: first, to save money on bus fares, and second, to ensure that his son arrives at school safely.

Alejandro became disabled when he was 5 years old, according to the official page of the local television show Front Row, as translated by Elite Readers.

Despite his disability, Alejandro wishes to fulfill his responsibilities as a father to his son, one of which is to ensure that his son arrives at school safely.

Even when he has to manually roll his wheelchair across busy roads in the morning while his son sits on his lap, Alejandro knows it is the best he can do for his son.

Nonetheless, the father finds it difficult to do so because his 7-year-old son, Junior, has grown too big to sit in his lap. Junior is in second grade and attends Pasig Elementary School, where his father drops him off each day.

Since their plight was shared on Facebook, many netizens have expressed their admiration for Alejandro for doing everything he could to raise his son.

Many other netizens were concerned about the duo’s safety because they have to cross busy roads every morning as motorists rush to work.

Nonetheless, Junior will hopefully learn from this experience about his father’s sacrifices and willingness to raise him. Who knows, Junior might be the one pushing his father’s wheelchair a few years later.
