Trent Winstead, 88, of Nashville, Tennessee, was admitted to St. Thomas West Hospital in late 2016 due to kidney failure. Delores, his wife of 64 years, remained by his side, holding his hand. Trent’s heart, however, began to weaken as a result of dialysis, and his condition rapidly deteriorated.

Trent and Delores had been inseparable since they met in the 1950s. They had two kids, three grandkids, and eight great-grandkids. But it appeared that their time together was coming to an end.

Delores developed a brain aneurysm after complaining of a headache one night.

Officials at the hospital agreed to let her share a room with her husband, and she was placed in a bed beside him, hooked up to a ventilator. Hand in hand, the couple faced their most difficult challenge yet.

Delores died on December 9, 2016, with Trent by her side. Trent’s son Eddie informed him of his wife’s death, and Trent blew her a kiss. Trent died two hours later as well.

The couple was laid to rest a few days later. Delores was placed in a pink casket, while Trent was placed in a blue one — the prince and princess, forever together. «I feel like God sent my mom and dad together and they left together,» their daughter Sheryl Winstead said. It’s just really good.»
