A husky was miraculously rescued from beneath rubble in Turkey after being trapped for 23 days under a collapsed two-story building with no food or water.

Alex was rescued from the wreckage by rescue workers in Antakya, Hatay province, after they overheard him while searching nearby.

More than 50,000 people have been killed in a series of devastating earthquakes in southern Turkey and northern Syria. Hatay is one of the provinces that has taken the brunt of the damage.

The team effort to free Alex was captured on video during the heartwarming rescue. Despite having only spent 23 days buried under the rubble, the friendly pup happily licked the face of his rescuer.

The brown-and-white dog is visibly relieved as he takes in his surroundings while sitting safely in the arms of one of the volunteers.

Alex was taken to the HAYTAP Field hospital for treatment, and volunteers provided him with care and attention following the rescue.

He was exhausted and had lost weight, but he was otherwise in good health, according to Turkish media.

‘It was a miracle,’ said HAYTAP volunteer Osman Polat to Turkish news outlet Oda TV.

‘It is truly a miracle that he survived for 22 days in that hole without eating or drinking anything.’

Alex is thought to have become trapped when the two-story building he was in collapsed on February 6.

It’s unclear how he survived for so long surrounded by rubble and without sunlight.

While searching for temporary shelters in Antakya, rescue teams heard him making noises.

Volunteers could see his nose through a small hole in the wreckage and freed him in two hours. Alex could be seen panting happily after his rescue as he received much-deserved attention.

As volunteers stroked and played games with the Siberian husky, his ears pricked up and he appeared alert.

On Monday, Turkey was hit by another 5.6-magnitude earthquake, this time centered in the Malatya province town of Yesilyurt.

The initial 7.8-magnitude earthquake on February 6 killed nearly 50,000 people and destroyed or damaged an estimated 173,000 buildings.
