A woman and her friend were out for an afternoon walk when they heard cries in the distance. They followed the sounds and were surprised by what they found!

Four puppies, all under a month old, were left alone. There were no other humans or mama dogs around. Who could have abandoned these babies in such a state? The two women immediately dialed a local rescue number.

The rescue workers arrived on time. A caring woman lifted each puppy and examined it. Fortunately, she had a lot of experience with animals that had been dumped in this manner and was eager to help them.

She noticed ticks eating the puppies alive. What a plight for infants!

Two of the puppies appeared to be significantly thinner than the other two. Their situation was extremely concerning. They rushed the puppies to the vet and placed them in a pail.

The veterinarian gave permission for two of the puppies to travel to the rescue shelter. He stated that they needed more nutrition and tick treatment, but that they were otherwise fine.

Two of the puppies were not permitted to leave the clinic. They were dangerously anemic as a result of the insect bites and malnutrition. They needed more TLC as well as blood transfusions.

We can’t imagine how terrified these puppies were. They are so small and should be with their mother. We are grateful that the rescuers took turns visiting the two puppies at the vet.

The two healthier puppies have already been adopted and are thriving in foster care. The other two puppies are currently in the vet’s office, but they are improving every day.

The blood infusions cheered up the puppies. They’ve all been parasite-treated and are tick-free.

Thank goodness the woman and her friend were out for a walk at the time. If not, the puppies are unlikely to have survived. All four are now doing well.
