Sixteen years after her disappearance, the question of Madeleine McCann’s whereabouts remains unanswered.
A 21-year-old German lady has come forward and claimed to be the missing child, asking a DNA test to confirm her identity.
She also want to communicate with her putative parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.
Madeleine McCann’s high-profile abduction on May 3, 2007, during a family vacation in Praia da Luz, Portugal, drew international attention and remains an unresolved mystery.
The recent appearance of the young German woman who insists she is Madeleine has attracted widespread curiosity.
Her Instagram handle, «iammadeleinemccan,» has more than 659,000 followers.
She emphasises physical similarities between herself and the missing girl, as well as connections to Gerry and Kate McCann, in her social media posts.
She points out moles on her face and thigh, a mark in her right eye, and a dimple, stressing the need for a DNA test to validate her suspicions.
While she recognises that she cannot be certain without the test, she hopes the police will look into it.
She said during a live TikTok Instagram broadcast that her intuition was spurred by a conversation with her grandmother, who purportedly indicated that her family was aware she had been victimised by a paedophile.
She admits to only having fragmented recollections of her upbringing, but she believes one of the suspects listed on the official findmadeleine.com website matches the person who molested her as a youngster.
The inquiry into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance has taken several unexpected turns.
At one time, a Portuguese detective suspected her parents of being involved in her death and concealing the facts.
The case was eventually resolved by Portuguese authorities in July 2008.
Following the arrest of a suspect by German police in 2020, the inquiry was reopened.
By the end of 2022, German officials had identified a 45-year-old German man as the key suspect in Madeleine McCann’s murder, arresting him for several counts of rape and alleged paedophilia.
Nonetheless, the case of Madeleine’s disappearance remains unsolved.
This new development adds another degree of complication to the issue, especially if the DNA test requested by the young German woman produces conclusive results.
