Simply being there and caring can have a significant influence.
16-year-old Reuben Grey can attest to this. This young kid made a decision that would touch the hearts of many people before to his audition for Britain’s Got Talent.
Reuben walked the stage alone, his anxiety already high, eager to sing a song he had composed for his lover, with whom he had previously experienced a precious moment. Opening up about his personal life in front of a live audience and judges was a vulnerable and tricky scenario.
However, the absence of his most ardent backer made things even more difficult. Reuben’s father worked overseas for around nine months out of the year, and his father’s absence caused a hole. It just didn’t feel right without him nearby.
But then something unexpected happened, and everything changed. When judge Simon Cowell asked if his father was a bigger fan than his mother, an audience member shouted up in unison. Reuben shifted his attention, and there, almost out of nowhere, stood his proud father.

Nothing could stop this motivated young man from displaying his remarkable gift, including his father’s unexpected entrance. His wonderful voice, accompanied by the piano, attracted both the judges and the audience.
Simon Cowell applauded Reuben for his honesty, distinctiveness, and willingness to take risks, and expressed real affection for his music. The judges unanimously voted «yes» for him, recognising his great skill.
