The first thing that springs to mind when hearing children on airplanes is a thunderous scream. The next sight that appears is a young child who simply cannot stop running through the cramped corridors of the fully loaded plane.
This latest internet legend, though, is about a peculiar incident involving a couple who abandoned their child at the airport check-in after being asked to purchase a ticket for the infant. One little child did not even get the chance to experience the flight they may have ruined because of their parents, even though the conversation is largely about kids on aircraft and the disruption they frequently make in the air.
The couple chose the Ryanair aircraft for their commute from Tel Aviv to Brussels, but they did not purchase a ticket for their little child. They operated under the same tenet as other forms of transportation, where there are frequently open seats for infants and children.
The restrictions are generally the same, though they can vary based on the airline you fly. In India, a child who has not yet turned two is considered to be a «infant.» In accordance with Air India policies, an infant may be charged a price equal to 10% of the adult passenger’s basic fare. Therefore, it is obviously not free, in contrast to the misconception that produced the peculiar example.
While lacking a ticket, the couple gambled by attempting to board the plane with the infant in tow. According to the Jerusalem Post, when halted, the parents holding the Belgian passport declined to buy a ticket.
The parents left the stroller after passing through passport control while pushing their infant in the stroller. They didn’t think it was necessary to pay for the infant. The parents made an attempt to board the plane without their child, but the airport officials caught them in the act and called the police.
The guilty couple was then located by the police, who detained them and interrogated them. Everyone in the area was in disbelief when they realized what the couple had done, according to the manager at the Ryanair desk. The supervisor said, «This is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. What we were seeing beyond belief.»
