Angelina Jolie adapted to this person’s opinion and ceased singing when her ex was not kind about her voice
Before starring as an opera singer in «Maria,» the actress recalls, «I just assumed I couldn’t really sing.»
Before taking on the role of actual opera singer Maria Callas, Angelina Jolie had to regain her self-assurance as a vocalist.
When discussing her preparations for the biopic Maria, directed by Pablo Larraín, the 49-year-old actress told The Hollywood Reporter that she «had somebody in my life who was not kind to me about singing,» adding that «it was a relationship I was in.»
Jolie said, «And so I just assumed I couldn’t really sing.» The fact that it even affected me was strange because I had attended drama school. I simply adjusted to this person’s viewpoint.»
She continued by saying that «it took me getting past a lot of things to start singing,» adding to her surprise that «I discovered also that I was a soprano» on the way.
«I always believed that my voice was low. «No, you’re actually a soprano,» the singing coach remarked when Jolie explained to him that her voice is deeper, she told THR. «And most likely, something took place. When you experience different things in life, your voice changes. That was unexpected. That was really peculiar.»Maddox, 23, and Pax, 20,
Jolie’s sons, «were there [on set], but there was hardly anybody in there,» she explained to the magazine, adding that she «was very, very shy stepping through this whole process» of singing.
