Angelina Jolie remembers Maria’s first opera lesson! I just sobbed after taking a deep breath
The actress previously said that in order to play opera diva Maria Callas, she had seven months of vocal training.

For her part in Maria, Angelina Jolie struggled to discover her singing voice.
The 49-year-old Oscar-winning actress talked about her transition into Maria Callas, the late American opera singer known for her famous vocals, in an interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America that aired Thursday, November 21.

In a video released exclusively to PEOPLE, Strahan, 52, asked Jolie to expound on her description of her opera classes as «therapy.»
«We all don’t realize that different things that happen to us in our life — I know you’ve been through many things — we hold them in our body,» Jolie stated. «To keep us moving forward, everything is simply locked somewhere.
You must therefore unleash all of it in order to sing truly and completely.

She went on, «So my first lesson, I took a deep breath and just cried… and then left!»Real-life recordings of Callas’ singing are mixed with Jolie’s vocals in Pablo Larraín’s (Jackie) film Maria. The actress previously claimed that in order to prepare for her performance, she underwent vocal training for almost seven months.
In October, Jolie told Variety that the singing sessions were the «best therapy I’ve ever had.» «To be honest, I think I would advise a lot of people to take a singing class before trying therapy and spending too much time there,» she continued.
