She wanted to become a dazzling blonde, but in the end she underwent surgery and is now embarrassed to leave the house.
24-year-old Briton Ellie Swain, like most girls, has always loved experiments with her appearance. Being a natural brunette, in 2020 she decided for the first time to lighten her hair.
The master recommended opting for the popular balayage technique. The essence of this coloring is that the paint does not get on the scalp, as the hair is lightened along the length, creating the so-called «color stretch».
Swain was quite satisfied with the result, but a year later, Ellie wanted to completely transform into a blonde. She signed up for another beauty salon. It was in May 2021 — and this visit to the salon was fatal.
The hairdresser applied a brightening paste to the client’s head and left it for the allotted time. However, after 15 minutes, Ellie complained of a severe burning sensation.
The colorist did not attach much importance to the girl’s requests to wash off the composition from her hair. As the unfortunate woman later recalled, the process of washing off the paint was comparable to «opening a working oven, from which hot steam comes out.»
She felt something similar when the salon worker began to remove the cap, which covered her hair in the process of lightening, from her head. The chicken-yellow color of burnt hair immediately caught my eye.
In an attempt to correct the annoying situation, the master applied another dye to neutralize the shade. But Swain demanded to wash it off immediately, because the pain was becoming unbearable.
In the end, the girl went home with an ice pack and the hope that everything would pass by the next morning.
In addition to the fact that her badly damaged hair began to break and had to be cut short, a few days later she found blisters on the back of her head. The British went to the hospital, where she was prescribed antibiotics. But she didn’t get better.
It got to the point that part of the head completely lost sensitivity, and when combing, whole shreds fell out. At this point, the girl sounded the alarm and went to the ambulance.
As a result, she was taken to the burn center with a serious diagnosis — a chemical burn. The situation was so critical that a skin graft was required.
On June 17, Ellie Swain underwent surgery during which the «dead» area was replaced with donor skin taken from her thigh.
“You don’t expect when you go to the hairdresser that you will get injuries and scars that will change your life,” Ellie now says bitterly. Although a whole year has passed since the unsuccessful staining, the girl still has a long rehabilitation ahead of her.
And both physical and psychological. The unfortunate woman admits that after the experience, her self-esteem has sharply decreased and she is forced to force herself to leave the walls of her home so as not to completely close herself.
