Kaitlin Burge, the mother of a cаncer-stricken boy, shared a heartbreaking photo of her son being comforted by his older sister during chemotherapy. That was more than two years ago, and after a long, exhausting, and hard-fought battle, little Beckett is now well and attending school.

We at Bright Side were overjoyed to learn that the boy is cаncer-free, and we hope that this story will remind those who are going through difficult times right now that there is always hope.

It was a difficult time for everyone.
Beckett, 2, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on April 25, 2018.

The 15-month-old siblings went from playing at home to sitting in a cold hospital room together. Aubrey, Beckett’s four-year-old sister, watched her brother struggle to walk and play.

The situation was hard on everyone, and it came as a complete shock to the family. But, as Kaitlin revealed exclusively to Bright Side, they stayed together, relied on one another, and took each day as it came.

Spending 35 days apart from his sister

Aubrey had a difficult time, according to Kaitlin. Beckett was and continues to be her best friend. She was without her brother for 35 days while he was in the hospital.

She had no idea what was going on. All she knew was that something was wrong with her best friend, her brother.

As one might expect, the entire family’s life was far from easy and simple. «I watched my only son go through so much and still smile,» Kaitlin wrote in the caption of the above photo.

I saw my sweet Aubrey persevere through a difficult period in her life and become so self-sufficient. She witnessed her best friend/brother in a state that no sibling should ever have to go through.»

Beckett kicked cаncer in the shins like a true soldier.
The journey was difficult, with many ups and downs, but Beckett prevailed.

Beckett is cаncer-free and back in school after two years of pain, suffering, and fighting. «He is feeling great, he is done with treatment, and he is back to school, currently in first grade,» Kaitlin said.

His final treatment was on August 8, 2021, and he now has a completely clean bill of health. Beckett is now six years old, and his seven-year-old sister is always by his side. The siblings maintain an unbreakable bond, which grew stronger during Beckett’s illness.

Keeping Beckett’s journey together through thick and thin was exhausting, but we’re all aware that there are many more people on the same path.

When we asked Kaitlin for words of encouragement for those going through similar difficulties, she said to keep your head up, take things one day at a time, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Remember that this is only one chapter of your life, and you can find the strength to persevere.
