While Elizabeth appears to have an enviable sense of self-assurance, she is also outspoken about body image and the pressures that society places on women.
During the first episode of her podcast, «My Body, My Podcast,» in July 2021, the Pitch Perfect actress and producer reflected on social media.
«Images of myself have always affected me,» she explained before recalling a school dance. «This was prior to social media. I was confronted with a photo of myself after the fact, and it altered my entire perception of the night. I had a fantastic time the night I saw this dance.
When I saw the photo, all I could think was, ‘Oh my God, all anyone was looking at was my chicken legs, raging acne, and shiny forehead [sic].’ It still bothers me that it could ruin an evening for me. «I still have that feeling.»
«Self-images are incredibly powerful,» Elizabeth added, but «filters and Photoshop» can have a negative impact on self-perception.
«It’s critical to remember that images aren’t our bodies,» she said. «They’re simply photographs of our bodies.»
In February 2019, the Brownstone Productions founder admitted that she isn’t «always comfortable in [her] own skin» and recalled arriving in Hollywood and being told to «get a boob job.»
