Celine Dion’s husband and brother died within a week of each other, but the Queen of Power Ballads understood she had to keep the show going. While playing her international smash «All By Myself,»

she triumphantly landed the notoriously difficult F5 high note at the song’s conclusion, leaving nothing on the stage, but then she burst into tears.

Dion’s emotions were on display for the entire crowd as she sang that specific song while grieving, but she remained onstage as she composed herself, demonstrating how much of a consummate professional she is.

René Angélil, Dion’s manager and husband of 22 years, died of throat cancer on January 14, 2016, at the age of 73. Dion’s brother Daniel died from cancer two days later, on what would have been Angélil’s birthday.

This double whammy served as the backdrop for Dion’s Las Vegas performance the following month, her first since the tragedy.

Dion displayed incredible poise by getting through the song’s most challenging section, the climactic vocal section ending in «anymore.» The high F5 note at the end of this section, which leads into the song’s outro, is notorious for being difficult to strike.

When Dion was 20, their professional relationship turned romantic in 1988. They kept their romance hidden from the public eye for five years until going public in 1992.

They later got engaged on Dion’s 25th birthday, March 30, 1993, and married the following year. Angélil continued to manage Dion throughout her increasingly successful career in the years that followed, only stepping down in 2014 after being diagnosed with cancer.
