Her parents abandoned her when she was a baby! She stunned the entire world twenty years later
Some life tales are more engaging than others. They may have a rough start, but with hope, faith, and determination, they may frequently travel to places no one imagined possible.
This is one of those stories that has a happy ending. It all started in 1992 in Siberia, Russia.
A daughter was born on February 29, 1992, in a small town near Bratsk, Russia. Tatiana was the name given to her by her parents.
Tatiana, the girl’s name at the time, was born with a disease known as Mammillary Fibula.
This meant that her tibia bones, ankles, heels, and other leg bones were gone. She had no possibility of walking as a result of this.
Tatiana’s parents were only 17 and 18 at the time, and they were convinced they couldn’t care for their daughter.
As a result, they abandoned the poor baby in a Siberian orphanage.
Tatiana spent her first years of existence in the worst place on the planet.
But then everything changed.
Beth and Steve Long, two Americans, came upon Tatiana’s picture in an international adoption database. When they learned about her tragic background, they resolved to assist her.
They travelled to the opposite side of the planet to adopt a 13-month-old baby.
They returned her to the United States city of Baltimore, where they provided her with a new home, a new life, and a loving family.
Jessica was her name, and she received the greatest medical attention straight away.
When Jessica was 18 months old, surgeons had to amputate both of her legs. She figured out how to walk with artificial legs.
Jessica learnt to walk swiftly. She had a strong desire to win and grew interested in sports despite her physical limitations.
She learnt to swim at her grandparents’ pool.
Jessica’s favourite pastime quickly became swimming.
She improved steadily, and in 2004, when the Paralympic Games were held in Athens, Greece, she was the youngest American athlete to compete.
Despite being the youngest participant, she won three gold medals.
Jessica Long went on to have a successful career. She won more gold and smashed world records, swiftly becoming one of the best swimmers in the world.
Natalia and Oleg Valtisheva, from Russia, watched Jessica compete in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
But they had no idea that the exceptional swimmer was their own child.
Even that was about to change.
Jessica’s tale reached Russian journalists when she performed well in London. They knew Jessica wanted to meet her biological parents, so they began searching for them.
She eventually discovered that her parents live in Bratsk. They agreed to meet with Jessica once she spoke with them.
Jessica and her mother, father, and three siblings were reunited 20 years after they had last seen each other.
They’ll never forget how sad it made them feel.
«In Russia, I met my family.» I adore them more than words can express. Jessica tweeted, «My heart is now full.»
Nobody expected her to grow up to be an Olympic athlete who would win medal after gold, but she did it nonetheless.
Jessica demonstrated that everything is possible, and meeting her biological family brought her full circle.
