I actually can’t talk! Kelly Clarkson said after Céline Dion’s opening ceremony performance at the Paris Olympics
After the Olympic cauldron was ignited, Dion sang Edith Piaf’s «Hymne A L’Amour» beneath the Eiffel Tower.
Many, including Kelly Clarkson, were brought to tears by Céline Dion’s electrifying comeback performance during the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris.
Mike Tirico and Peyton Manning were part of the broadcast crew that included 42-year-old Clarkson to cover the event for NBC on Friday, July 26.
During the lighting and ascent of the Olympic cauldron shaped like a hot-air balloon, Dion performed Edith Piaf’s beloved song «Hymne A L’Amour.»
At the foot of the Eiffel Tower, the 56-year-old French-Canadian singer dazzled in a white Dior haute couture gown designed by Maria Graza, with the Olympic Rings glowing above her head.
«Wow!» Tirico, 57, made the announcement after Dion’s performance. «Céline Dion, who has been dealing with a rare progressive neurological disorder, and has not appeared very often, performing in public, with… a performance fitting of this amazing night.»
Squeaking out, «I actually can’t talk,» Clarkson was overcome with emotion. «It was amazing,» Tirico answered. Clarkson said, «That was really beautiful.»
«No one is aware of her story. Her physical struggles are very amazing, and it’s amazing how she overcame them to reach that point.» «She’s a vocal athlete,» the American Idol champion said, sniffling a little before continuing. She is amazing.»
Dion relocated other NBC stars besides Clarkson. Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, hosts of the Today show, were seen on camera admiring her performance.
