I don’t need a prince! The girl who married herself
This act was condemned by many, but the bride is happy.
The marriage of 24-year-old Kshama Bindu was the first example of sologamy in India: the girl married herself.
“I never wanted to tie the knot. But I dreamed of becoming a bride. So I decided to marry myself,” she told the Times of India. “At some point in my life, I realized that I don’t need a charming prince, because I am my own queen.”

The parents supported the girl’s decision: her father gave his blessing according to all Indian customs.
“I will dress like a bride, take part in traditional rituals, my friends will attend my wedding, and then I will return to my home instead of going with the groom,” the Indian dreamed.
As a result, the ceremony really took place. Although the groom was not present, it included many Hindu wedding customs, including seven circles around the sacred fire, scattering rice and flower petals on the newlyweds, and a bright red wedding sari.

In addition to all the rituals, the bride also wrote the five vows that the priest said at the wedding. After the solemn ceremony, Kshama went on a honeymoon to Goa. Of course, one.
The 24-year-old Indian believes that her act, symbolizing the act of self-love, will be an important step in the development of the institution of marriage.
“Perhaps I am the first Indian who set an example of self-love in our country,” the bride proudly told the Times of India.

Proponents of traditional marriage may consider such a ceremony sacrilegious, but Kshama argues that «self-marriage is a commitment to be there for yourself and unconditional love for yourself.» The Indian woman is sure that no one can love her more than herself.
“It is also an act of self-acceptance,” Kshama added. People marry those they love. I love myself and therefore this wedding.” According to the girl, her ultimate goal is to show that women are important in Indian society.
“I noticed that, unlike in the West, such ‘independent’ marriages are not popular in India,” Kshama said in an interview with Press Trust Of India. — Therefore,
I decided to start this kind of trend and inspire others with my example. Not all people may like my idea. But I’m sure I’m doing the right thing.»
