The 43-year-old actor talked about how he was «thrown» against a police car in Los Angeles in an interview with The Guardian that focused on his identity as an Egyptian-American guy. When the police received a report of a Latino guy stealing a woman’s bag and alcohol, he said that the man «fit the description.»
«I remember how hot that engine was — they must have been racing over there and it was almost burning my hands,» claimed the man.
He went on, «I recall thinking, ‘Okay, this is a pretty risky situation,’ while laughing in the police car. I might end myself in jail for something I didn’t do.
The actor claimed that Malek is of Egyptian ancestry rather than Latin, and his companion, who is Caucasian, rushed in to correct the authorities. A request for comment from PEOPLE was not immediately answered by the Los Angeles Police Department.
«It’s difficult enough traveling,» Malek described to The Guardian as a Middle Eastern man in an airport. He claimed that his full name, Rami Said Malek, has raised some red flags with airport security, albeit his notoriety has frequently helped him in those situations.
