The 36-year-old Guardians of the Galaxy actress made her baby announcement on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, September 6, during the screening of her most recent movie,
The Life of Chuck. In pictures from the occasion, which took place at the Princess of Wales Theatre, Gillan is shown grinning and caressing her bump in a yellow dress next to celebrities including Stephen King, Tom Hiddleston, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Gillan and husband Nick Kocher tied the knot on social media last year, and they have been married since May 2022. The couple’s first child together will be this one.
When PEOPLE asked for additional information on Saturday, September 7, representatives for the former Doctor Who star did not reply right away.
At Castle Toward in Scotland in May 2022, Gillan, who had earlier disclosed that she met her spouse through her «recommended friends list on Instagram,» wed him in secret. It was the «algorithm» that united the two, she revealed to Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on Live with Kelly and Mark in 2023.
Although Kocher didn’t reply right away, Gillan eventually located him on X, the previous Twitter, and sent him a private message there. I said to him via direct message on Twitter,
«Hey, your tweets are hilarious. «By the way, I’m Karen,» she reminded Ripa and Consuelos. It lacked much intrigue.
