Goldie and Kurt met on the set of The Only and Only, Genuine Original Family Band in 1966. Hawn recalled the meeting in an interview with BBC Radio 4.
«I was 21 and he was 16 at the time,» Hawn explained.
«I thought he was cute, but he was far too young. Years later, we reconnected, and I remembered how much I liked him when I first met him. We both stated that we would never date another actor, so it just goes to show that you never know.»
They weren’t quite ready to start dating. And, despite appearing to be the happiest person on the planet at the time, Goldie Hawn was actually struggling.
According to reports, she struggled with depression behind closed doors, which she never revealed to the public.
On the talk show Good Morning Britain, Hawn revealed that her mental health issues began in her early twenties.
«I used to be depressed when I was younger. «I was 21 and on my way to success,» she explained.
I know it sounds terrible, but it’s a very, very difficult thing, and I didn’t want to do it.»
In 1969, Goldie Hawn married actor Gus Trikonis, but they divorced four years later. She was divorced in June 1976 and married Bill Hudson a few weeks later, beginning a six-year marriage.
Russell and Hawn reconnected while filming Swing Shift in 1983.
