Model at 71 destroys all stereotypes about age and beauty and ignites the fashion world
Accepted beauty standards in today’s fashion world can sometimes resemble an imaginary cage. People who want to work in the fashion industry must follow so many rules about their age, appearance, and even behavior that it is becoming oppressive to society.
That’s why it’s always encouraging to hear that stereotypes are being discarded on a regular basis, and that there are some models who dare to challenge the entire industry.
Here at Bright Side, we want you to meet Rosa Saito, a 71-year-old fashion model who proves to the world that age is just a number, not a measure of someone’s beauty and talent. Her modeling career began later in life.
Rosa Saito, 68 years old, with white hair and a strong artistic talent, discovered her life’s passion: a modeling career. Her real name is Setsuko Saito, but she goes by Rosa on Instagram to make it easier to pronounce.
Her height is 1.68 m, and despite her limited knowledge of the modeling industry at the time, she excelled in this field. Her adventurous spirit, which brought her to So Paulo Fashion Week, was the most important factor in her success.
Rosa was born in the Brazilian city of Araçatuba. She discovered her creative talent as a child and pursued singing, drawing, and writing. She knew she would connect her life with something because she was a very creative child.
«I knew I wanted to do something creative, something I could invent.» «I take that side in everything I do,» she says.
Rosa had a lot of challenges and losses in her life before becoming a model.
She was 22 when she took care of her bedridden mother. Then, as a mother of three, she had to be both a mother and a father to her children after her husband died in 2000. But she had one bright spot in her life, and that was caring for plants. They became her daily meditation.
«It is critical to seek and find yourself.» And my peaceful moment is with them (plants). I go outside to talk to my garden.
She had never considered becoming a model until she was approached by agents. She only decided to consider the idea after being invited three times.
«It was done three times by Mega modeling agency professionals and once by a photographer.» I gave the idea a year to mature; after all, it had costs, and it wasn’t something I was going to jump into blindly.
«Until I decided to take a chance,» she says.
Setsuko was raised in a very natural manner and was never given even one aspirin as a child. «It was all based on tea, and in my essence, I am like that, kind of anti-chemistry.»
As a result, I always took care of myself with aloe, coconut oil, and olive oil,» she explains.
The strongest emphasis, however, is placed on being in harmony with oneself. «The beauty is in truly caring for your thoughts and spirituality.» The person can become beautiful, captivating, and friendly; this is much more than all stretched and perfect beauty. «In my opinion, it’s the content that counts,» Rosa says.
The beauty industry’s standards are oppressive for her, but there is hope. «I believe we are gradually changing. People are living longer lives and taking better care of themselves, so businesses must be more open in this regard and visualize these potential customers.»
