Nick Brown, a former participant on Survivor, was elected as Washington’s first Black attorney general.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, Brown, a Democrat, defeated Republican Pasco Mayor Pete Serrano in the statewide election to succeed Bob Ferguson, who was chosen to be the next governor of Washington, according to the Seattle Times and NBC News.

Brown, 47, pledged his office will preserve «your civil rights, your rights to an abortion, your environmental protections» in Washington during a watch party held Tuesday at the Seattle Convention Center.

According to the Times, he added, «There is so much for me to build upon from the work that Bob and his team have done to defend the rights of Washingtonians.» «In the coming days, I intend to take up that baton.»

Brown was a cast member of the 2001 CBS series Survivor: The Australian Outback. He was the third member of the show’s seven-person jury and placed seventh in the second season of the popular reality program.
