Over the weekend, strong winds are expected to return to southern California, posing a threat to wildfires near Los Angeles
On Saturday, January 11, Southern California is expected to see a return of winds of 35 to 50 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph.
Residents of Los Angeles will need to exercise caution over the weekend as high winds are predicted to increase once more, according to the National Weather Service, as wildfires continue to burn throughout the county.
Wind gusts of 50 to 80 mph were recorded in Ventura and L.A. Counties starting Tuesday, Jan. 7, with isolated gusts of 80 to 100 mph in the foothills and mountains. «Increased wind activity and fire outbreaks» happened after the winds moved throughout the counties. The Palisades, Eaton, Kenneth, Sunset, Hurst, and Lidia Fires are among the other fires that have since broken out.
According to NBC News, since Tuesday, January 7, 180,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, and as of Friday, January 10, 11 people have died. The Eaton and Palisades fires have burned more than 12,300 buildings.
Conditions are moderate and dry, with temperatures near normal and improved winds. The area enjoys seasonal average temperatures.
However, forecasts indicate that a fresh round of strong Santa Ana winds will hit the area once more this coming weekend, with gusts of up to 60 mph and winds between 35 and 50 mph. Once more, the winds will increase the risk of a fire, and this risk will be particularly greater in regions with dry air and little humidity.
