The Princess of Wales’ flawless curtsies eventually return to their regal duties.
Following the announcement of her cancer diagnosis earlier this year, Kate Middleton’s comeback to royal life continues with her largest diplomatic endeavor, which included a flawless curtsy to her father-in-law, King Charles.
The 42-year-old Princess of Wales participated in a state visit for the first time since making her diagnosis public on March 22 and then declaring in a separate statement on September 9 that she had finished treatment.
On Tuesday, December 3, Princess Kate and her husband Prince William met the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and his spouse Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim al-Thani at a private home before making their way by automobile.
Kate gave King Charles a perfect curtsy at the welcome ceremony, then trailed behind the 76-year-old King and the 42-year-old Prince of Wales to observe the event.
Curtsies are a small gesture with a big impact that members of the royal family have traditionally used to show respect for people who are higher in the royal hierarchy than themselves.
Kate has mastered the art of curtsying during her 13 years as a working royal, including her years of dating Prince William prior to their 2011 marriage. In fact, during a state visit in November 2023, she assisted in welcoming South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, First Lady Kim Keon Hee, and curtsied while negotiating stairs!
