Shakira says she put her ‘career on hold’ to support Gerard Pique’s soccer schedule.
Shakira felt compelled to make significant career sacrifices in order to keep her family together.
«For a long time, I put my career on hold to be next to Gerard [Piqué], so he could play football,» Shakira, 47, said in an interview with The Sunday Times on Saturday, March 16. «There was a lot of sacrifice for love.»
Shakira has recently relocated to Miami from Barcelona, where she previously lived with Piqué, 37, and their sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8.
Relocating to the Florida city helped her to bond with Victoria Beckham over her romance with a soccer player. Victoria, 49, is married to David Beckham, a retired athlete who now owns a club in Miami.
«I’ve talked to Victoria quite a few times since I arrived,» Shakira told the British site. «We’re always discussing when I’m going to go watch a match, and I know Milan wants to. We have not been able to meet yet, but we are on WhatsApp.
I met David a long time ago when he was playing for Real Madrid. That was before I began my romance with a Barcelona player.»
Shakira went on to compare and contrast the lives of pop stars (Victoria was a Spice Girl when she met her husband) and athletes.
