Supporters denounce the Wicked alleged salary disparity between Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as diabolical
The substantial salary disparity between Wicked: Part One stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande has drawn criticism from fans.
The eagerly anticipated stage musical adaption is already showing in theaters and is attracting sizable crowds.
The film centers on two friends, Grande, 31, who plays Glinda the Good, and Erivo, 37, who plays Elphaba Thropp. Their relationship reaches a turning point as a result of the disparate treatment they receive from everyone around them.
The primary actress in the musical film, Erivo, reportedly earned $1 million for her performance. The supporting actress and singer of «No Tears Left To Cry,» on the other hand, is reportedly making $15 million.
Additionally, according to sources, Jeff Goldblum, who plays the Wizard, and Michelle Yeoh, who plays Madame Morrible, received $2 million for their parts.
There are also some significant disparities in the stated pay for the other main cast members. According to reports, Ethan Slater, who plays Boq and Grande’s boyfriend, received $350,000, while Jonathan Bailey, who plays Prince Fiyero, only received $450,000.
Bowen Yang and Marissa Bode, whose parts have also drawn attention, are reportedly earning $250,000 apiece.Many viewers responded to the alleged leaked wage list on X, now known as Twitter.
The purported wage disparity between Grande and Erivo infuriated one user, who wrote: «It doesn’t sit right that Ariana is getting over $10 million more than Cynthia.»
