The little boy who got lost was found okay! Everyone stopped believing in salvation
Authorities in northwestern Germany reported that an 8-year-old boy who had been missing for more than a week was discovered alive in a sewage system near his home. The incident occurred in the year 2022.
Joe, the child in question, went missing on June 17th, 2022, sparking a massive search and making his family members extremely worried.
However, eight days after his disappearance, authorities in Oldenburg discovered him beneath a manhole cover thanks to a tip from a citizen who heard noises coming from below.
He was rescued successfully.
«Following an examination of all traces and clues, the officers now believe Joe crawled through a drain into the rainwater sewer system on the day of his disappearance and lost his orientation.»
According to the preliminary investigation, the possibility of third-party negligence has been ruled out.
«A wide variety of police departments across the country, as well as fire brigades and countless individual citizens who took part in the search for Joe,» according to the report. It appeared to be self-inflicted.
According to the authorities, the boy was discovered completely naked, but he had no significant injuries other than severe hypothermia and dehydration.
He became disoriented and couldn’t find an exit.
According to police, he crawled for 23 meters (75 feet) along a line and followed the sewer system through a plastic pipe only 23.6 inches (60 centimeters) in diameter. Some of his clothing was later discovered in this pipe.
Those eight days must have been a terrifying experience for him.
The child was able to navigate through sewage shafts and intersections, eventually arriving beneath the manhole cover where he was discovered.
Law enforcement officers launched a homicide investigation after receiving information that the boy had been seen with an unidentified person; however, the information was later discovered to be false.
Police believe there was no wrongdoing.
Joe is currently in the hospital receiving medical attention, and he hasn’t had the opportunity to fully explain his version of events to the authorities.
According to the preliminary police report, Joe has a learning disability.
During the investigation, they suggested that if he saw the search as a game, he might continue to remain hidden.
Fortunately, everything worked out perfectly.
«We are truly overjoyed,» police spokesman Stephan Klatte said. «That is pure luck. Of course, there was a chance we wouldn’t find the child there. If he hadn’t made a sound, or if these noises hadn’t been heard, we might not have found him at all.»
«I am very impressed by the tremendous dedication shown over the last few days,» Oldenburg Police President Johann Kühme said. «I’d like to thank all of the main and volunteer forces, as well as the individuals who have done everything with empathy and a high personal effort—until late at night.»
