A 20-year-old influencer with a rare form of cancer has bid farewell to her fans in a heartbreaking video, revealing her symptoms have worsened and she’s on end-of-life care.
Elena Huelva, who has gained more than 615,000 followers on Instagram for documenting her health battle online, was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer called Ewing sarcoma in 2016.
She became a symbol of resilience while being honest and open about her fight with the disease on social media over the last six years.
But in a heartbreaking update on Sunday, Elena — who lives in Spain — said goodbye to her followers, as she revealed that her health had deteriorated.
Visibly emotional, the cancer sufferer held back the tears as she explained that ‘things were not going well’ for her in the footage, which was shared to her Instagram account.
Lying in a hospital bed with tubes attached to her airways, the influencer said: ‘They found more disease in my windpipe, which is very dangerous, as you know, because that’s where we breathe. I don’t need to say much more.
‘No matter what happens, I know that my life has not been in vain because I have fought and I have achieved what I want, to [bring awareness to the disease].’
She explained that she hoped she would never have to make this video, but added: ‘I want to make it clear that I’ve already won. With all the love and people I have by my side, I’ve already won.
‘At the end of the day, life is about living and making memories with people, and I take away many good memories with lots of wonderful people and many other things.
‘I would like to thank you for all the affection you have always given me. I love you.’
The video has gone viral — gaining nearly 600,000 likes, and many of her followers flooded the comment section with messages of love and support.
One branded her a ‘champion,’ while another called her an ‘inspiration to all’ and praised her for her strength.
‘I love you very much Elena, the best example of self-improvement I ever met,’ one person wrote.
‘You’re a champion. You already won no matter what,’ added another.
Someone else said: ‘My darling, you are an example of love and constant struggle. Your desire always wins! We love you.’
‘We love you and we admire you. You are an inspiration to all,’ read a fourth comment.
Elena’s tragic story has caught the attention of numerous Spanish celebrities such as actress Ana Obregón, whose son died of the same condition, TV presenter Sara Carbonero and singer Manuel Carrasco.
