Li Changyu was born in Rugao, Jiangsu, in 1938. He moved to Taiwan with his mother when he was five years old. Li Haomin, his father, owned a large fish farm in Jiangsu. Unfortunately, his father was killed on a ship bound for Taiwan in 1949, leaving his mother to raise 13 boys and girls on her own.

Li Changyu was accepted to Marine University for college as a teenager, but when he discovered that the police academy had no tuition fees, he chose to attend there instead. This was a watershed moment in his detective career.

Li Changyu began his career as a criminal police officer after graduating and was later sent to the United States to work part-time and further his education. He began teaching in 1975.

Li Changyu used scientific experimental methods to repeatedly detect strange cases while in the United States. He founded the leading criminal identification agency and takes part in over 300 case investigations worldwide each year.

Li Changyu received the government’s Friendship Award in 1999. In 2006, he began receiving faculty invitations from numerous Chinese universities to serve as a consultant at the China Supreme Procuratorate Information Technology Research Center.

Li Changyu has worked hard his entire life; he is known as a modern Sherlock Holmes, a scientific detective, but he credits his success to his mother and wife. He was deeply grateful to them.

The Li family was wealthy at first, owning nearly half of the land in Rugao, Jiangsu, but by the time Li Changyu’s generation arrived, the family had suffered greatly.

On the eve of the 1949 Spring Festival, his father, Li Haomin, boarded the Taiping Ship to Taiwan to escape the chaos of the war. Unfortunately, his ship sank in Shanghai, кilling Li’s father.

Due to overload, the passenger ship Taiping sank while sailing at night without turning on the navigation lights. Almost a thousand passengers were killed in this accident.

Worse, Li Haomin initially traveled to Taiwan with the family’s sole remaining asset. The family suffered enormous financial losses following his death.

Since this incident, his mother, Wang Shuzhen, has taken on the responsibility of supporting the family.
