On her way to work, Norman, Oklahoma resident Robin Strader observed something quite strange in the middle of a busy roadway.

A scared donkey was staggering down the street. After pulling to a stop, the woman stepped out to help the frightened animal but not before dialing 911. Soon later, Norman Police Department Officer Kyle Canaan showed up.

Robin was able to pull the donkey off the road in the meanwhile. Officer Canaan wasn’t sure how to approach this utterly strange challenge at first, but he soon figured it out.

The woman offered to foster the donkey they named Squishy at her house a few kilometers away. It would have taken too long for a proper transport vehicle to show up, so Officer Canaan chose to let Squishy tag along.

Squishy happily accepted the invitation. The police department for the city of Norman, Oklahoma, posted on Facebook that «our officers deal with unforeseen situations every day.»

Officer Kyle Canaan responded to a call of a runaway donkey in the 8100 block of 120th Avenue NE this morning. He assisted in moving the donkey to a nearby residence where it was kept in safety until its owner could be found. You don’t see a donkey in the backseat of a car very often.

The back of the patrol car, which is often used by criminals, was no problem for the rescue donkey. Additionally, the two had a terrific time traveling together.

With one exception, that is. It used the restroom in the rear of my patrol car, Canaan told KFOR. I mean, there must have been a lot because I must have gotten it straight after breakfast. The most crucial thing is that officer Canaan safely transported his canine companion to Robin’s house.

If no one else is willing to adopt it, he even showed interest in doing so.
